Fall in Sea Pines: Oyster Roasts, a Harbour Town Race Day, and the Road Work to Plan Around

On weekdays this fall, a temporary traffic signal on Deer Island Road and flaggers on Lighthouse Lane set the pace through the south end of Sea Pines. On weekends the same part of the island fills up for oyster roasts, Halloween on the Harbour and a half marathon that now starts and finishes in Harbour Town. Both CSA construction notices schedule work Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., excluding major holidays. Most of the Resort's fall events fall outside those hours. That split is the most useful planning tool a Sea Pines resident has between now and the end of November.

There is one caveat. Both notices allow weekend or overnight work if the CSA announces it in advance, so read the split as a strong pattern rather than a promise.

The weekday map

Four CSA projects affect how people get around right now. Here they are in one place:

Project Where Schedule What to expect
Deer Island Bridge repair The bridge connecting Deer Island Road to Lighthouse Road Early September through December 2026 Temporary traffic signal, flagging, possible full-lane closures
Lighthouse Lane Phase 4 Lighthouse Lane, Mizzenmast Lane, Windjammer Court, Mizzenmast Court, Genoa Court Early September 2026 through early spring 2027 Daily single-lane closures, detours, temporary parking rules
Pedestrian Bridge #31 replacement Between West Beach Lagoon Road and South Beach Lagoon Road Began week of September 14, estimated 4 to 8 weeks Bridge closed
Beachwalk #47 Beach access path Postponed, no new start date Will detour to Beachwalk #46 once work begins

The Deer Island Bridge job is a full excavation and replacement. The CSA's September 25 update said sheet-piling work would begin September 28 and warned drivers to expect 15 to 20 minutes of delay at the temporary signal once it did. Fifteen minutes is about how long it takes to bike from the Beach Club to Harbour Town on a clear path, so a weekday errand that crosses Lighthouse Road can take twice as long as it did last spring.

Lighthouse Lane Phase 4 runs next to Harbour Town Links and is the bigger disruption for the people who live inside the work zone. Crews are replacing the stormwater pipes and catch basins, rebuilding sidewalks, curbs and roadway, and milling and repaving Mizzenmast Lane, Windjammer Court, Mizzenmast Court and Genoa Court. The CSA also notes that overnight dewatering pumps will run to lower groundwater, and that cyclists must dismount and walk their bikes around active work areas. For the highlighted properties, owners, guests, renters and service providers must use the temporary parking areas during daytime work hours through the end of 2026. Any car left in a driveway overnight has to be moved to the temporary area by 7:00 a.m. If you have guests coming between now and New Year's, that 7:00 a.m. deadline belongs in their arrival instructions.

Weekends belong to the Beach Club and the harbor

Saturday oyster roasts at Coast, the oceanfront restaurant at the Sea Pines Beach Club, return October 10, according to the Resort's current event calendar. That calendar lists them every Saturday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., weather permitting, through February 27. The Resort describes local oysters roasted on site, peel-and-eat shrimp, live music and drink specials. It does not list a price on the event page. Because the roasts happen on Saturday afternoons, a trip from the Harbour Town side to the Beach Club should miss the weekday flagging on Lighthouse Lane and the weekday signal on Deer Island Road, unless the CSA announces weekend work.

The last full weekend of October brings two Halloween events back to back:

  • Halloween Wagon Ride, Saturday, October 24, 10:00 a.m. to noon, at Heritage Farm. Reservations are required. The listed price is $22 per adult and $20 per child age 12 or younger.
  • Halloween on the Harbour, Sunday, October 25, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., in Harbour Town. It includes games, trick-or-treating and a costume fashion show at 2:30.

The next Sunday is the biggest event of the season.

November 1: the race moves to Harbour Town

For 2026, the Hilton Head Half & Quarter Marathon & 5K starts and finishes in Harbour Town, and the course runs through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. The Resort's fall guide calls this new this year. Hilton Head Running Company produces the race and Alliance Roofing presents it. The organizer describes the course as a mix of paved roads, paved leisure paths and hard, smooth natural trails through the Preserve.

Because the race is now inside the gates, race morning sends a large crowd through Sea Pines early on a Sunday. Here is the timeline the organizer has published:

  1. Before 6:30 a.m. The organizer recommends that participants and spectators be parked by this time in Lots 1 and 2 inside Sea Pines.
  2. Trolleys. Free trolleys run from the lots to the Harbour Town circle. Each trip takes about 20 minutes.
  3. 7:30 a.m. The last inbound trolley leaves. Race announcements and warm-up begin.
  4. 8:00 a.m. All three distances start together.
  5. 1:00 p.m. The last trolley leaves Harbour Town.

Paid priority and VIP parking near the start and finish is available as an add-on. It requires a hangtag that must be picked up before race day.

If friends or family are running, there's a small benefit. The organizer says race-day entry to Sea Pines is free for participants and their family members, with gate clearance provided. Outside visitors normally pay a $10 gate fee.

None of the organizer or CSA notices reviewed for this post include a road-closure schedule for race morning. The course maps are linked by distance on the organizer's site, which is the best place to see which paths and roads the runners will use. If you have plans near Harbour Town or the Preserve before early afternoon that Sunday, look at the map first.

The race is also tied to the Preserve's future. The organizer says proceeds benefit the Sea Pines Forest Preserve Foundation and Turtle Trackers, and the Resort says the Sea Pines Community Fund will match donations. That Foundation is planning improvements to Fish Island, the 1.3-acre fishing and picnic site the Resort donated on February 16. As of the Island Packet's March report, plans were at an early stage. Updated restrooms and a pavilion or event space were being considered, but no design or timeline had been committed. When runners pass through the Preserve on November 1, they're raising money for the group making those decisions.

The weekday exceptions worth the detour

A few of the season's events fall on weekdays, and they sit inside or near construction hours:

  • Farmers & Makers Market, every Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at The Shops at Sea Pines Center, 71 Lighthouse Road. The Resort's current event calendar lists the season through November 24.
  • Heritage Farm Dinner, Wednesday, October 21. The dinner is a multi-course meal of local harvest ingredients with Robert Mondavi wine or beer pairings, complimentary valet and live music on the farm.
  • Día de Muertos Tequila Dinner, Thursday, October 29. The multi-course menu is by Clinton Barabas and Iain Jones, with Patrón tequila pairings and an oceanfront celebration.
  • Caymus Wine Dinner, Friday, November 13, in the Heritage Room at the Harbour Town Clubhouse. The menu is by Executive Chef Sean Carroll, with dessert from Executive Pastry Chef Iain Jones.
  • Caramel Apple Festival and the 23rd Annual Fall Fishing Tournament, Friday, November 27, the day after Thanksgiving. The festival is at Heritage Farm. The tournament is in the Forest Preserve, where anglers of all ages can fish for bass, bream and catfish.

The Tuesday market falls fully inside weekday work hours. Coming from the Harbour Town end, that means allowing extra time at the Deer Island Road signal. While you're at Sea Pines Center, Sea Pines Pottery is now open there for walk-in paint-your-own pottery. Its site lists general hours of noon to 6:00 p.m. on weekdays and 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekends. In Harbour Town, Lighthouse Kids Co., a children's apparel and gift boutique, has been open daily from 10:00 a.m. since January 9.

What comes after the season

Lighthouse Lane does not finish when fall ends. Phase 4 is scheduled to run into early spring 2027. A larger Harbour Town project comes after that. In July the Resort announced an expansion of the Inn & Club at Harbour Town. It includes gut renovations of all 60 rooms, new Harbour Town Residences, rebuilt racquet and pool facilities, a poolside bar and restaurant, and lobby and fitness upgrades. Construction is expected to start in 2027 and finish in late 2028 or early 2029. Harbour Town will see construction in some form for the next few years. This fall's weekday-and-weekend pattern is one residents can expect to use again.
